RAINES FEATURED ON WFAN

Newark Bears Manager Tim Raines was featured on the Adam "The Bull" Show on Sports Radio 660 WFAN Tuesday afternoon. Raines was brought on the show to talk about the Bears and his relationship with New York Yankees principal owner and managing partner George Steinbrenner, who passed away at the age of 80 earlier that day.

Raines was traded to the New York Yankees in 1995. Raines played three seasons in the Bronx and was a part of the Yankees return to championship form. In 1996, Raines battled with injuries from the start of the season, but batted .284, stole 10 bases and notched 11 postseason hits for the Bronx Bombers, who captured their first American League East title in 15 years and first World Series Championship in 18 years. He captured his second ring with the Yankees in 1998.

As he enter his second year as manager of the Bears, he comes off a 2009, where he guided the Bears to a 74-66 overall record and a playoff berth in his first season as manager. Raines also had five players named to the Freedom Division All-Star Team for the 2009 Atlantic League All-Star Game, hosted by the Newark Bears. The Bears led the Atlantic League in team-batting (.297 average) and Newark held a league-best 45-25 home record for an impressive .643 winning percentage.

The Newark Bears are a member of the eight-team Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. For ticket or sponsorship information, call 973-848-1000, or visit www.newarkbears.com.
