GETTING CLOSER EVERY DAY

The Newark Bears are actively preparing for another exciting season at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.  As the calendar rolls on and the clocks push ahead an hour, the feel is spring is slowly but surely growing.  There are a lot of exciting things happening with the Bears as Opening Day 2010 approaches.

On Saturday, March 13th, the high winds and thrashing rains didn't deter job seekers and hopeful voices from coming out as the Bears hosted a job fair and national anthem auditions.  Nearly 400 people streamed through the doors anxious to be a part of the Bears this season.

The Bears announced the signing of Fernando Seguignol to their 2010 roster.  Seguignol made a name for himself over in Japan as he is the All-Time Leader in switch-hit home runs with 44. He is an 16 year veteran of professional baseball and has made stops with both the New York Yankees and Montreal Expos in the big leagues.

The Newark Bears announced today the signing of Kennard Jones for the 2010 season.  The son-in-law of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, Jones begins his eighth season of professional baseball in 2010 and his third stint in the Atlantic League.  Jones played in 15 games for the Bears at the end of the 2009 season and put together a .277 average.
