MLB TURNS TO THE NEWARK BEARS FOR MAJOR LEAGUE TALENT

The Newark Bears have assembled a roster of talented major league veterans that is unprecedented in the history of independent league baseball.  This fact has not gone unnoticed by scouts for major league baseball teams.  In less than one month, four (4) Bears from this year’s roster have signed contracts to pursue their dreams with affiliated teams.  On Thursday, May 14, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed Bears infielder Abraham Nunez, a former major league star with the Pirates, Cardinals, Phillies, and Mets.  Nunez was batting .314 and led the Bears with 12 runs scored.  On the same day, the San Francisco Giants signed infielder Ramon Castro, a former major league player for the Oakland A’s.  Castro was arguably the best player in the Atlantic League over the last two seasons, and he was batting .333 when he was signed by the Giants.  On Sunday, May 3, the Chicago White Sox signed first baseman Daryle Ward, a former major league star with the Pirates and Cubs.  Lastly, pitcher Dave McKae, a former San Francisco Giants minor league player, signed with the Boston Red Sox during the Spring Training period.

In addition to these four players, outfielder Tim Raines, Jr., signed a contract to play in Taiwan after only a few games on the Bears roster.  Lastly, pitcher Eddie Ramon signed a contract to play in Mexico during the Spring Training period.

The Newark Bears will continue to attract the most talented free agents on the market, and more players will return to affiliated clubs before the season is over.
