(Camden, N.J., Jul. 30, 2010) - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Newark Bears 4-3 on Friday night at Campbell’s Field in Camden, New Jersey.

Both starters looked strong as Mike Loree matched up with Mike Madsen, who made his debut for the Riversharks. Loree surrendered just one hit over his first five innings and set down 10 straight at one point. Madsen set down five-straight and struck out three through his first two frames.

Newcomer Eric Munson put the Bears on the scoreboard in the third inning. With Manny Mejia aboard, he blasted a two-run shot over the wall in right field to give Newark a 2-0 lead. The Riversharks timed Loree in the home sixth. Brian Burgamy plated a pair with a one-out RBI single and an error on the right fielder to tie the game at 2. The next batter, Garrett Guzman, put the ‘Sharks ahead with a RBI single and it was 3-2.

Camden added an insurance run in the home seventh as Estee Harris went deep on the first pitch he saw from Greg Reinhard. Newark attempted a comeback in the ninth against closer Tracy Thorpe. Elijah Dukes, who finished 3-for-4, and Isaiah Kaaihue reached on a back-to-back singles followed two batters later by a Carl Everett single to load the bases. Mejia worked a walk to force home Dukes and the Bears were within a run. Thorpe got the final two outs to secure his tenth save and the win for Camden.

Reliver Ryan McKeller (3-4) took the win, firing two scoreless innings, with a hit, a walk and a strikeout. Maden tossed five innings, scattering four hits and two runs, with four strikeouts in a no-decision. Loree (4-8) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, and four hits, with five strikeouts over five and two-third innings.

The Bears and Riversharks continue the weekend series on Saturday night. Game time is set for 5:35 p.m. at Campbell’s Field. Fans can catch all the action on
